Duration Based Planning in Analytics

With Duration Based Planning, the spend is spread evenly across the entire duration and can be viewed in different areas of Promotion Analytics and Reporting

How Duration Appears In Analytics And Reporting

When viewing a duration-based promotion, Vividly spreads expected spend evenly across the days within the promotion window. Actual spend always reflects when deductions were received.

The default view in Promotion Analytics and Accruals remains Promotion Month — no changes are needed if you want to keep viewing data the same way you always have. If you do want to view data across a full duration, go to Insights → Promotion Analytics → Spend Analysis → Spend Timing dropdown → select Promotion Line Duration to spread expected spend across the full date range.

Alternatively, select Accrue By Window to spread spend based on the date range configured for each fund type in your account settings (Fund Types → Open Fund Type profile → Go to Accrue by Date Range Configuration dropdown → Select date type)

Accruals: Similar to Promotion Analytics, go to Insights → Accruals → Settings and set Show Accruals By to Promotion Line Duration or Accrue By Window for the same behavior.


Budget: The Promotion Line Duration option is also available in Budget under the Spend Timing dropdown


Forecast: No change. Forecast already references promotion date ranges and will continue to work as usual


How Duration Affects Deduction Matching

The auto-matcher now uses the full date range of a promotion when matching invoice lines:

  • If an invoice date falls within the promotion's start and end dates, it can match that promotion

  • Matching is date-specific and inclusive. If the invoice date is outside that range, it will not match. For example, if your promotion ends on December 30, an invoice dated December 31 will not match. Set your end date carefully to cover all expected invoice dates

  • Match confidence is still based on the spend rate — not the date range
